Season and scope

This draft compares the named 2026/27 editions, reviewed on 1 November 2026. It concerns senior men’s competition regulations, not youth or women’s competitions or a complete comparison of the Laws of the Game. Champions League qualifying rounds are excluded.

The Premier League text was verified in the 2026/27 handbook reproduced in SEC Exhibit 4.14. The UEFA basis is the 2026/27 Champions League regulations. Both identify the same season; their edition labels are not inferred from publication dates.

Check the phase before applying a tie-breaker

First establish whether the question concerns a table position, a two-leg aggregate score or the final. Those are different decisions.

For example, a Champions League second leg can finish level while one club advances because it won the first leg. Conversely, winning the second leg may only bring the aggregate score level and trigger extra time. This follows Articles 20–21 of the UEFA regulations.

Away goals remain a league-phase ranking criterion under Article 18; that does not restore an away-goals advantage in knockout ties. For terminology, see extra time, added time and penalty shoot-outs and the football rules overview.
