Scope and editions
This is a 2026-season comparison, not guidance for subsequent seasons. It compares selected playing rules, not tournament qualification, roster eligibility or championship regulations. It does not cover youth baseball or experimental formats.
The NCAA edition is confirmed by its official library record. The cited rulebook text was inspected in a separately hosted reproduction; the archive’s attached PDF could not be retrieved through the research tool. The NCAA’s rolling PDF link now serves the 2027–2028 edition and is deliberately not used as evidence for 2026.
Practical implications
Plan MLB bullpen changes around the longer minimum. Before an NCAA doubleheader, establish its scheduled length. Treat the concussion provision as a specific exception, not general permission to rotate substituted players back into the lineup.
For related explanations, see substitution and re-entry and designated hitters and lineups; check each page’s stated scope before applying it to NCAA play.
